Hello, everyone.

I am delighted to take this opportunity to express my great honor and pleasure to meet Pro. Kondo from Japan and gave us his speech today. After several days of adjustment, a new page of our life has already turned. Actually our life is always mingled with anxiety and confusion just like we are feeling now. We drag a second, a minute, an hour into the shallow shadow of a day, a month, a year and finally these seemingly instantaneous points become our long, long life. Though hard, our mind is still filled with ever-increasing faith and hope.

For this semester, as the students of APU, we will have fewer burdens of other subjects and focus mainly on Japanese and English learning. We have been given as much freedom as we ought to deserve and it is high time we should set up a plan about how hardworking we can be to realize our life goals, or what kind of abilities we are going to learn as qualified APU students, and start fulfilling it. Here are some my personal opinions about what kind of qualities are needed to lead our future studying.

The first is interest. You may know the famous Germany artist, Menzel, who was considered one of the two most prominent German artists of the 19th century. He had done a great many excellent works and exerted enormous influence on posterity. One day, people found him sitting near a filth gutter with countless annoying bugs flying all around and disagreeable odor that made everybody want to vomit. Not until they took a closer look did they realize that he was drawing a discarded dirty shoe with all his attention and total ignorance of the disgusting surroundings. People said he was caught in a “painting fever disease” but he was rather it didn’t be cured at all. There’s a joke. When I first learned the word “truth”, I often wondered whether it is a countable noun or an uncountable noun. But soon afterwards I was clearer than anyone else. Because Conan said “truth, only one”! You see, study can be really fun. So don’t take our study as a sort of responsibility but your own interest, through which we can learn the spiritual emancipation and also this individual joyful study can help us control the impact and privileges on the society after we work. A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.

The second is determination. Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all. The widely spreaded story is the hard procedure of extracting radium by Marie curie. But what most of us do not know is that she was extremely industrious when she was at the college. Because at that time Poland was in hot water, she came to France to continue her education. The patriotism only allowed her to improve but never degrade. The professor’s humorous way of speaking French with lots of slang words was a pleasure to others but a hindrance to Marie curie. She spent all her time overcoming the language barrier and catching up with the classes. She was hit by innutrition, poverty and solitude but never gave up. It is her determination that won her the Nobel Prize, made her success. Remember the words from the Shawshank redemption? Get busy living, or get busy dying. So simply be straight forward and keep on purchasing your destinations.

The third is an open mind. With today’s accelerating globalization and the rapid development of technology, we also suffer the by-products of modern era. Our take-home money is getting less while the inflation and economic stagnation are going into a vicious cycle. The world’s matter is our matter; the world’s responsibility is our responsibility. To coordinate with people from other countries and districts, we need an open mind and tolerance while we are in trouble or misunderstood by people. Entering APU will provide a broad platform of interaction with different voices. Because we are the creatures of highly connected society, we have the duties to devote ourselves to make it more harmonious. This is how we need the cooperation.

The weakness of attitude will become the weakness of characters. And character is the thing that defines our destiny. Interest, determination and an open mind are the three things I consider to be the most important in the future studying. I hope, more or less, it will give you some extra advice to help you reach your success to some extent. And trust me, whatever you believe with feeling becomes your reality.

Thank you all!

Good morning everyone. I really appreciate having the chance to give you a speech today.

Today I’m going to talk about something that we should do in the last year here.

As we know the upcoming school year is really important to those students who are going to participate in the national college entrance examination. It’s also important to us for there’re a lot of works and challenges ahead.

We are already accepted by APU, to some extent we’re lucky, because we don’t have to be under such great pressure. So some people may consider that we can relax, and just have fun in the next two semesters. (Of course I'd rather believe no one has this idea in our class.) This kind of idea is horrible I think, it will make us lazy, and constantly we will regard it as a matter of course, just like the old saying goes habit is a terrible thing.

So today I want to give you, of course, including myself some suggestions to stay true to ourselves.

First, learning Japanese is our primary task, it is one of the major requirements for us to live and study in Japan later time. Next, since we've been enrolled in APU, our curriculum seems slimmer, so my advice is that we could do some preview or read relevant books and other materials about the subjects you want to study in APU later. Fortune only favors the prepared minds, so I think the coming school year is the most appropriate time for us to do this work in advance. Meanwhile, I think we’d better get to know about the local culture, such as social etiquette and traditions. This plays a vital role in socializing with local people. It can also help you academically by keeping you free from cultural shock.

At last, I’d like to go back to the question of habit, as I've mentioned a bad habit can be a disaster. On the contrary a good habit will assist you to tackle the tasks with double efficiency. We’re good, so we want to be better. But everyone knows that nobody’s perfect. Indeed we have some shortcomings, so I hope everyone can develop good habit and manner to perfect ourselves in the coming school year.

Whatever you did, whoever you were, from now on, you’re and we’re all brand new, we have chosen APU, we have a clear direction. Why don’t we regard it as the end of past, and a beginning of future?

It’s the time to overcome your weakness; it’s the time to conquer the peak that you've never reached; it’s the time to start your first step; it’s the time to rebirth; it’s the time to fight for your dream seriously. Be tough, and we will be what we want to be.

Thank you!
