Students film micro-movies around the theme of “infinity”. PROVIDED TO TEENS

“For we live amid millions of possibilities, every ordinary second becomes a miracle (奇迹).” This is a line not from a thought-provoking (发人深省的) movie produced by a renowned director but from an 8-minute movie made by us, a group of students in Hangzhou Foreign Languages School.

As part of the annual Foreign Languages Festival, students from Grades 9, 10 and 11 make micro-movies related to a specific topic. This year, all of the productions revolved around (……为中心) “infinity (无限)”.“This is a broad topic, indeed,” said Lu Yufan, one student director. Many classes chose to express philosophical (哲学的) ideas, such as questioning friendship based on one’s will. “It surprises me that teenagers nowadays have such profound (深远的) thoughts,” one student’s parent said.

“We had come up with several ideas. We thought about the infinite circulation of one particular day, which is sort of magical. However, considering the 8-minute time limit, we chose to tell a relatively simpler story,” Lu said. She and her team’s movie focused on the relationship between classmates. “The distance between people may sometimes appear to be infinite, but when you really put things into perspective (换个角度看问题), you’ll see that actually everyone cares about each other and is closely related.”

As one can imagine, the process of making a movie is difficult. Writing the script, hiring actors, shooting and editing all take up a great amount of time. Having to balance producing and studying adds more challenges. “On the weekends, I had to stay up late to write the script,” said Sun Han, a scriptwriter. “Once the crew (全组人员) even missed a math class because of shooting.”

After more than a month of hard work, the production eventually came to an end. The school uploaded all the movies to the video website Bilibili. “I’m so excited to see our hard work pay off,” Lu said. “There are so many talented people in our school who have produced professional works.”

The school has set up awards to honor the best movies. However, for students, the awards are not as important as the experience itself. “Unforgettable. This has been a sparkling (闪闪发光的) month with a great sense of achievement coming after I see our movie”, Lu said.

自创班刊:一份送给青春的礼物。

For Grade 9 students, there are only two months left before graduation. How will they record their memories of the past three years?

Students in Class 6, Grade 9 at Hangzhou Foreign Languages School got the chance to make a class magazine. They are saving their junior year memories by presenting essays (文章) and photos of various school activities.

Sun Han is the chief editor (主编) of the magazine. His classmates picked him for the job. “We have been preparing for the magazine for quite a long time. During winter vacation, everyone selected (挑选) articles they wrote and provided them to our editors,” Sun said. “I shared some of the poems I wrote.”

Xu Leqi, another student, wrote about a sports meet where several boys who were not very athletic pushed themselves hard to fight for the honor of the class.

Many students say that the stories remind them of the important moments they shared together, but for Hang Yuhan, it’s also a great chance to look back on her own growth.

“I found that my articles written in the old days were quite naive (幼稚的). I used to complain a lot. But three years later, I feel I can look at things in a more positive way,” Hang said.

Apart from stories, photos are more vivid (生动的) reminders of school years. The photos show many firsts, such as the first time the class picked tea leaves, the first time they sang onstage, the first sports award they won, and their first successful dance performance.

“When we go to university or start working in the future, the magazine will remind us of our carefree (无忧无虑的) years,” Sun said.
