LiDr.

Farewell

A country of immigration

In the evening of 23rd February we welcomed Dr. Kyle Hudson from NCSSM (North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics) to give his lecture about the history of the United States in 5116 where both the students from our center and from the NCSSM were present as well.

Dr. Kyle Hudson was born and raised in North Carolina. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a PhD in political science from Princeton University, and a law degree from Harvard University. He used to teach at the Duke University and went to the NCSSM after that.

With a big round of applause, Mr. Hudson started his lecture of American history and gradually found himself immersed in talking about the periods of early American colonization. Some of the national conflicts, momentous battles and diplomatic policies that profoundly contributed to the formation of a mass democracy and nationalism of the United States were covered as well. A middle-aged man with a great sense of humor as he was, Mr. Hudson not only kept us thinking about the origin of the attitudes of Americans towards distinct groups of immigrants from all around the world, but also decided to make us laugh. And it was in such a casual ambience that students began to raise their hands one after another. Certainly, never had the students obtained such detailed answers in a lecture before, nor did we realize that, eventually, it was time to say goodbye to the meaningful lecture and our big man.
