我校初三年级举行校友杯英语演讲比赛

5月27日,一号楼6楼大厅,人声鼎沸,座无虚席。杭外校友董佳尉先生出席校友杯演讲比赛。
十位通过三年英语考试成绩汇总排名,从200多名同学中脱颖而出的选手,身着正装,神采奕奕,静待校友杯的开始。
本次校友杯英语演讲比赛的主题“A Small World”,妙趣横生又创意满满的自我介绍环节过后,便是十位同学有着独特、新颖观点的演讲,演讲结束后与评委的随机问答,也给予观众以全新的视角来看问题的方式,看到了问题的另一面。
“A Small World”这一主题,很容易让人联想到网络,这让地球成为“地球村”的科技衍生产物。几位同学在犀利指出网络的利与弊的同时,也以温暖,充满正能量的方式,对一些问题做出趋于完美的阐释。也有一些选手以自身经历为切入点,通过深度贴近生活的实例,进行扩充与完善,这种与观众息息相关式的演讲方式,无意间拉近了演讲者与听众的距离。同时也不乏令人耳目一新者,一位选手以班级与地球作比,以班内的同学与国家作比,将世界与一个班集体等价,新颖的观点,每个同学的亲身经历,使这个演讲格外得吸引人。讲台上每位选手都昂首挺胸,侃侃而谈,从容不迫的样子配上精心挑选的西装,也成了一种美好的视觉享受。
最后2班、4班同学带来的歌舞表演,诙谐的编曲,高亢醇厚的高音,引来同学们会心一笑、慨叹羡慕。最后由杭外校友董佳尉先生宣布了本次校友杯得主,分别为来自初三(6)班的吴一凡同学(男)和来自出初三(3)班的邓晨钰同学(女),并为他们颁发了奖杯,至此本届校友杯英语演讲比赛画上了圆满的句号。

With the computer virus Wannacry spreading to at least 150 countries at an amazing speed recently, we are once again reminded that we are living in such a small world, and that it is the Internet that makes the world smaller. Just through a tap of finger on the screen and you will know what’s happening in another city, province, in another country or even on another planet. You are able to obtain loads of information on almost everything, from what to eat today to what’s German’s latest policy towards the refugees.
Sure, the Internet can provide us with so many approaches to communicating with people worldwide and getting to know more about the world we live in. Without a doubt, online technology makes the world smaller. But on the other hand, those negative impacts that the Internet has on people are also evident. Network security problem is just a small aspect. For one thing, we can’t ignore those misunderstandings online. I once got engaged in an argument about a piece of social news. Unfortunately I met many people whose ideas were against mine. I certainly don’t feel the need to repeat those abusive words here, but believe me, that feeling was awful. I kept asking myself questions: Why can’t they just try to understand and think about my points instead of being so mean? Then I realize that when we make our comments online, sometimes we may fail to express our ideas precisely, and we occasionally become irresponsible and ignore our ethics burden since we don’t actually know the people behind the screen. Therefore, misunderstandings, which can lead to discrimination and even verbal abuse online, are found all over the Internet.
However, those harmful effects the Internet has on people not only exist in the virtual world, but also in the “reality” world we live in, and even transform to physical harm s that threaten people’s lives. The game Blue Whale is just a painful example. Aiming at the adolescents, this game contains several “tasks” that will eventually tempt the player to commit suicide. The game’s inventor uses the Internet to spread the game from Russia to many other countries. Thus, the Internet has in some way become the seedbed of certain crimes.
Of course, thanks to the Internet, we are living in a relatively small world now. But living in this small world, we’ve got fairly big problems: in this small world we may not see the truth; in this small world we may suffer from abuse; in this small world we may not be secured. However, we are still able to have “big eyes”, to see through all those comments and fake information, to explore the verity, to observe and take care of the emotions of those people around us. Living in this small world, the chance is in our hand.
吴一凡同学演讲稿:
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. It’s my great honor to stand here and deliver this speech.
Let’s start with a story. Last year, we travelled abroad with an eight-year-old Chinese girl. When we said bye to a foreigner, she was surprised and asked us why we spoke Chinese to someone who did not understand it. It turned out that the expression was so popular in China that she considered it as Chinese. But as we all know, such expressions are actually popular all around the world. It’s a fact that different languages have impacts on each other, and that is just one of the many characteristics of the small world we live in. Thanks to the rapid development of technology, we can communicate with friends thousands of miles away, and we can go wherever we want using bikes, cars, trains or planes. But besides technology, what makes the world so small after all? In other words, what makes it possible to connect people with each other, even someone far away or someone they don’t really know about? There must be something all human-beings have in common in spite of obvious factors such as appearance and intelligence.
This question is philosophic, and it reminds me of a Chinese philosopher 500 years ago. Combining all the merits of different schools of thoughts in ancient China including the Confucian, the Taoism and the Chinese Buddhism, he created his own philosophy and turned the page of history. His name was Wang Yangming, and now he enjoys great popularity all around the world. For the first time, he pointed out that all of us can become sages because we have been born with our conscience, which western people hundreds of years later called universal values.
I believe that there is no need to explain these two concepts, for they have been known and recognized for a long time. Because of the existence of them, however, we should learn that all of us share similar morals, and I believe that this is the real reason of globalization, which has made the world so small. We all like friendship, which we develop by opening our minds to the outside world. We all want peace, so we hate the ones who try to ruin it. We all love lives, and we protect them by preserving the environment where they are raised.
In the Declaration of Independence, the revolutionists wrote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Unfortunately, these universal values are not highly valued nowadays. There are discriminations and stereotypes, fool who despise other cultures or their own cultures, terrorists who kill innocent people, and sinners who try to destroy the earth for their own goods. To stop the crime, although some of us have not realized them, we should regard ourselves as citizens of the world because we share the same great minds, and we share the small world.
