12月17日下午，来自乔治城大学的教授Jagmeet S Kanwal来到杭州外国语学校剑桥国际高中，为高一、高二的同学带来了一场精彩的讲座。Kanwal教授同时也是Pioneer全球先锋研究项目的指导教授。Pioneer项目由美国大学教授和国际教育专家在美国共同发起，旨在为全球优秀的青少年开创更为创新更具挑战的研究学习机会。同时，通过这个项目，学生的升学资历得到升华，科研能力得到前所未有的拔升。每四位Pioneer学员就一个课题通过网络师从于一位美国大学教授，在入门课程后，每位Pioneer学员都将和教授展开一对一的课题研究。Kanwal教授带领他的组员在过去几年中就人类神经对不同声音的反应以及对情绪的影响进行了实验，并借助电脑科技做了全面的分析。在他的讲座中，他向我们介绍了一些基本概念，他的实验过程以及部分的结论。

首先，Kanwal教授给我们听了一组不同频率的声音，借助这些例子解释了音乐、节奏、旋律等概念，随后他又介绍了听觉皮层、布洛卡区、韦尼克区等在大脑中的分布，进一步引出大脑神经是如何处理分析声音这个话题，同时Kanwal教授也向我们介绍了他在蝙蝠身上做的实验。

在讲座的最后，Kanwal教授介绍了他的部分研究成果，而与学生的问答环节更让现场的气氛活跃了起来。在解答同学问题的同时，Kanwal教授也提醒同学们，人类对于许多事物都是未知的，这需要更多的科学家与学者投入精力做更多的研究，他也鼓励剑桥高中的同学们加入Pioneer这一研究项目，鼓励同学们与时俱进，让智慧与科学碰撞出火花！

On the afternoon of 17th December, Professor Jagmet. S. Kanwal from Georgetown University ,also a member of Pioneer program brought us a meaningful and passionate speech on ‘Neutral computation of sounds and emotions’ for the PAL and AS students at CAL Center in Hangzhou Foreign Language School. Pioneer program basically offers an opportunity to the students who are most interested in scientific investigation and exploration of world. Among the past few years, Professor Jagmet and his team has made much progress on their research, and on the lecture he has shared his research findings with our students.

Firstly, through the performance of different sounds of different frequency, Professor helped us get to know some basic elements of sounds. He also well addressed the structure and function of our brains with vivid pictures and terms. The most attractive and inconceivable part, which has been presented to us, is the experiment their team has conducted on the sound of bats! The afterwards analysis and results has further supported their argument and made the whole picture clearer.

Although the time is limited, students developed their interests in the scientific world. The lecture has not only exposed the essence of science but also encouraged us to question more, to discover more and to explore more.
