Good morning and welcome to the opening ceremony of 2024 HFLS Foreign Languages Festival. This year holds a profound significance as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Hangzhou Foreign Languages School.

In 1964, under the direct guidance of Premier Zhou Enlai and Foreign Minister Chen Yi，Hangzhou Foreign Language School was established as one of the initial seven foreign language schools in China.

Throughout the past decades, our school has nurtured a multitude of talented individuals who have contributed their skills to the diplomatic and economic development of our motherland.

As we gather here today, the echoes of history resound through these halls, while the future invites us with boundless possibilities.

Today, Hangzhou Foreign Languages School (HFLS) is brimming with excitement as it presents its annual Foreign Languages Festival, themed "Prize the Past, Forge the Future."

This festival serves as your passport to a living past and a launchpad for an exhilarating future. Prepare to be astonished, enlightened, and inspired!

On this auspicious occasion, we’re honored to have Ms. Hong Lin deliver a speech,, sharing her insights on the theme. Additionally, Yuan Jiayi from Senior 3 will be translating the speech into Chinese. Welcome!

各位老师、同学：大家早上好！

Warm greetings as we gather for the annual Foreign Languages Festival at our school. Today, we are united by the thought-provoking theme, "Prize the Past, Forge the Future," which invites us to honor the milestones of human ingenuity and to envision the future we aspire to create.

欢迎参加杭州外国语学校一年一度的外文节。“尊崇往昔，铸造未来”，围绕着这一引人深思的主题，我们齐聚于此，共同致敬人类智慧的里程碑，憧憬我们渴望创造的未来。

As we journey through life, it's essential to cherish the past and to embrace the boundless potential of the future. The past is our firm foundation, a roadmap that enables us to reflect on our experiences, understand our path so far, and plan our future steps in the ongoing narrative of human progress.

在人生旅途中，珍视过去的经验并拥抱未来的无限可能是至关重要的。过去是坚实的基石，是一张路线图，让我们回顾过去的经历，理解迄今的旅程，并在人类进步的宏观叙事中规划我们的行动。

Yet, the future is not a distant horizon; it grows from the roots of the past. I resonate deeply with the festival's plan, which draws inspiration from Confucius’ wisdom: "The path of the great is to act for the common good." This reminds us that a shared future is our ultimate goal. And Mencius' gentle reminder that "compassion is common to all humans" urges us to uphold kindness and empathy in our global interactions. These ancient philosophies are not just lessons from our past; they are the guiding principles that inspire our present actions and future ambitions.

然而，未来并非遥不可及；它扎根于过去的土壤。我深深认同本次外语节的主题文案，它汲取了孔子的智慧：“大道之行也，天下为公”。这提醒我们，一个共享的未来是我们最终的目标。同时，孟子提出人“皆有怵惕恻隐之心”，也敦促我们在全球交流中保持善良和同理心。这些古老的哲学不仅是先人的谆谆教诲，也是启发当下行动和未来抱负的指导原则。

Our school’s 60th anniversary is a testament to living these principles. It is a milestone that marks six decades of dedication to excellence and a commitment to nurturing individuals who will contribute to the global community. As we stand here today, we are not just commemorating the years that have passed by; we are also reaffirming our pledge to continue fostering an environment where the seeds of compassion, understanding, and global cooperation can flourish.

我校的60周年校庆是践行这些原则的最好证明。校庆是一个里程碑，标志着我校六十年来坚持追求卓越，并矢志不渝地培养全球性的人才。今天，我们站在这里，不仅是为了纪念走过的如歌岁月，也是为了重申我们的郑重承诺：我们将继续营造这种让善良、理解和全球合作的种子能茁壮成长的环境。
