Good morning ladies and gentlemen，

Welcome to the opening ceremony of 2023 HFLS Foreign Languages Festival.

We are so delighted to be together after the storm of suffering gradually subsided. The epidemic once made the world suffer. A series of incidents have been intensifying regional instability. Recent ChatGPT has obscured the outlook of future society. Bioengineering has blurred the final boundary of humanity...

Never have human beings seemed so confused.

Human beings, at the same time, have never been so brave.

We don't want to linger in the pain of the past or be confined to the anxiety of the present. We look forward into the future, moving forward along the axis of time. We will not be obsessed with the frivolous type of uniqueness or be closed to the limitation of Individuality. We go hand in hand to seek the common destination of mankind.

Hand in hand , shape the future. Such is the theme of our Foreign Languages Festival.

Today, we’re honored to invite Ms. Li Dan to bring us a speech , to share her thoughts about the theme. At the same time Hu Taozhan from Senior 1 will translate it into Chinese.

Good morning, esteemed colleagues and students,

I’m honored to have the opportunity to give the opening speech for the 2023 Foreign Languages Festival! This year, the theme of the festival is “Hand in hand, shape the future”, which echoes the slogan of the Hangzhou Asian Games: “Heart to heart, @future”. It reflects the power of collaboration and emphasizes the importance of togetherness to create a better future.

各位尊敬的老师、亲爱的同学们，大家早上好：

我很荣幸能够站在这里为外文节开幕致辞。

今年外文节的主题是“携手共进，共塑未来”，这与杭州亚运会的口号“心心相融，@未来”不谋而合。这简短的八个字，强调了将协作精神和团结精神紧密联系，以此创造美好未来的重要性。

Future can be shaped by some crucial moments. The statues of Premier Zhou Enlai and students holding hands remind me of about 60 years ago when the value of foreign language education was recognized. The establishment of Foreign Languages Schools laid the foundation for the foreign language education system we have today.

某些关键的瞬间会影响未来的走向。广场上那座周总理与同学们携手并肩的雕像，使我想到在60年前，外语教学的重要性尚且刚刚得到认可。然而，当时建立发展外国语学校的举措，却为今日的外语教学体系打下了坚实的基础。

About 7 years ago, the dedicated teachers and staff of our school moved to the new campus where we now stand. Hand in hand, we embarked on a new phase of innovation, paving the way for a promising future of our school.

在七年之前，杭外全体倾力奉献的教职工带领着同学搬迁到了新校区。从那时起，杭州外国语学校迈入了一个新时期，一个所有人团结携手，迎接光明前景的新时期。

Perhaps only a few days ago, you just finished your translation entry, your micro-movie editing, or your rehearsal for Drama Night. One day, you will reflect on the days and nights you spent, think of the shared tears and laughter, and remember the moments that you thrived and excelled.

或许在几天之前，你刚刚提交了翻译比赛作品，结束了微电影的制作，或是进行了一次丝丝入扣的戏剧之夜彩排。当你回想起这段时光，脑海中一定会浮现出日日夜夜的付出，一定会回忆起你在舞台上精彩的表演背后包含的笑容和泪水。

The wide variety of activities in this year’s Foreign Languages Festival are invaluable opportunities for every single one of you to demonstrate your responsibility, creativity, and ability to work together.

本次外文节所囊括的丰富多彩的活动，于你们每个人而言，都是一次体现责任感、发挥创造力、加强团结协作能力的宝贵机会。

Remember, every moment is a turning point to create a better future and every action you take today has the potential to shape tomorrow. We, HFLSers, not only have the power but also the duty to do so. Therefore, let us join hands and work together towards our shared vision of the future.

诗歌朗诵篇目赏析：

A Postcard from the Volcano 是美国著名诗人史蒂文森·华莱士在1936年左右创作的 抑扬四步格八节诗，常被学术界认为是一首献给诗人与读者的挽诗。诗人通过过去、现在与未来的时态交织，以第一人称复数形式探讨了失落、遗忘、死亡、湮没的渊薮，用悲哀渲染髑髅、葡萄香气、府邸、光晕等意象，缅怀了逝去的时间与尘土之下的历史，抵牾的同时探寻着未来。

经过一次次打磨和集思广益的排练，导演张泽熙和朗诵的同学们采用现代诗歌多种朗诵形式，精心设计了动作和走位，融合了呢喃、嘶吼、交错诵读、⻬诵等多种方式，配合音乐Between worlds， 深情再现了“火山边上”高邈夐绝的宇宙意识。
